The Android platform comes with APIs that allow developers to create virtual private network (VPN) solutions. These apps offer VPN protocols the built-in client does not support, and will enable you to connect VPN services without complex configuration.
This article explains how to use OpenVPN on your Android device to connect with NordVPN servers. This article also shows how to manually configure the connection using the NordVPN application and an OpenVPN Profile. This is more difficult but allows you to have greater control over the quality of your connection as well as mobile data.
To get started to begin, download the OpenVPN Connect app from the Google Play Store. You will then have to download the OpenVPN configuration files from your VPN service provider. These config files have a.ovpn extension and can be downloaded from the VPN provider’s website or by contacting their live chat team for assistance. After downloading the config files on your PC or Android device, you can transfer them to your device. You can download directly to your device or download an app such as ZArchiver.
Launch the OpenVPN application and then tap “+” to add the VPN profile. Select a server and tap “Connect”. Once connected the entire Internet traffic is routed through the secure tunnel to the selected server. The app will also display the status of the connection and the details in the Status tab. The app offers the option to keep the VPN connection in use even when it’s not being used.
