Avast Ultimate is a security program with high detection rates and a host of other features. Its malware scanner earned an excellent score in my tests and its web security blocked a variety of phishing websites that managed to get past Chrome and Firefox’s default security features. Other features include the Rescue Disk, a secure browser for online shopping and banking, as well as advanced tracker blockers and an VPN.
The user interface of the suite is simple to navigate. The main screen displays the list of its most important tools, with clear icons that explain their functions. Avast employs an orange, blue and white color scheme that’s pleasing to the eyes and easy to read.
In the Explore menu, you will find more detailed options for each tool, including custom scans, boot-time scanning as well as an automatic updater. You can also save a particular type of scan to the “Scan Center” so that you can use it again at a later date.
Advanced features of Avast can help in preventing ransomware by checking your computer for suspicious activity and then encrypting files which may have been targeted. It can even detect a trojan horse (a malicious program that sneaks into your computer disguised as legitimate software) and stop it from running on your system.
Avast offers 24/7 email, phone and live chat support. The free versions are supported by a vast community of knowledge and a vast knowledge base as well as paid plans that include advanced features such as identity protection and unlimited VPN, USB protection and patch management.
